A Report on the 2025 Cairo International Book Fair

“Surely You are a God who hides Himself” (Isaiah 45:15) was truly the experience of the serving ones during the 2025 Cairo International Book Fair (CIBF). In contrast to our human concept, the Lord sent the sons of peace to the booth mainly during quiet and low-traffic times for some quality, divine appointments. On the contrary, when there were large crowds, there were not many visitors to the booth.

According to the Egyptian Ministry of Culture, the 56th annual CIBF witnessed an exceptional public turnout of over 5.5 million visitors, which was a new record compared to the previous years. The final day alone attracted nearly half a million visitors. In the light of these numbers, the CIBF continues to be considered the largest literary event in the world.

Al Jadwal Al Haii (AJAH), the Arabic literature center in Cairo, participated in the 56th annual CIBF from 24 January to 5 February 2025 at the Egypt International Exhibition Center in New Cairo. The slogan of the 56th CIBF was “Read…In the Beginning Was the Word.” God in His sovereignty directed the administrators of the fair to decide on this slogan, and we trust that He indeed used it to bring many to Himself as the Word of God. In fact, the slogan was a good way to open conversations with customers who were not from the same belief. AJAH was given a corner booth, covering 18 square meters, featuring about 95 titles in Arabic.

Three female college students from the other belief stopped by the booth, opened the Bible, and started to talk with each other. It turned out that they were looking for verses about fornication. They were open to talking about marriage, fornication, and divorce with the serving one, and they read through some Bible verses together. The Lord directed the conversation to God’s purpose for marriage and how God used marriage as a picture to explain His relationship with His people. Eventually, one of the young ladies took the serving one to the side and said, “I am searching for the truth...However, how would I fully know that the Bible is the Word of God?” The serving one responded, “It is very simple, just read it and find out for yourself.” She was shown some verses in both the Old and New Testaments as examples that the entire Bible is about one person—Christ. This young lady was also impressed by the fact that Jesus had a sinless life on earth. Before she left the booth, she purchased the Bible and The Mystery of Human Life.

Quite a few of those of the other belief approached the booth. One female college student took her time to view all the displayed titles. Eventually she picked The Mystery of Christ, which was not displayed. A gentleman from the Gulf States asked for a book that explains the Christian faith. We recommended The Normal Christian Faith by W. Nee, and he purchased it. A similar incident happened with an Egyptian professor who was looking for the same topic, and he got the same title in addition to The Glorious Church, knowing that this title speaks about the church according to the Bible. One young man who was working at a secular booth next to us asked for titles about the Triune God. He purchased two titles—The Economy of God and The Secret of Experiencing Christ.

A clear observation about customers from the other belief was that most came because of the Bible. Some had questions about the difference between the Old Testament and the New Testament. Others wanted an explanation of terms such as the gospel, the four Gospels, the Torah, and the Septuagint. In responding to their questions, the serving ones also introduced them to the ministry books, including the Life-study of the Bible. Most of these customers ended up purchasing Arabic ministry books. This observation confirms the crucial need for the Arabic New Testament Recovery Version. Once this ongoing project is finished, undoubtedly the Lord will use it to have a significant turn among this Arabic-speaking nation.

The AJAH booth also received many customers who shared the same belief. A serving one said, “The CIBF this year was quite special as many seeking ones came by, who were soft, open, and ready to receive. I was touched by how many college students and even high schoolers were hungry for the truth.” Two college-student friends, M and B, came to the booth twice and enjoyed the fellowship. They ended up purchasing books. Also, a group of seven college students came to the booth and purchased some books. One of them ended up attending the 2025 Cairo Conference about two weeks after the book fair.

B B, a middle-aged gentleman, was our very first customer, coming from Assiut (a province in central Egypt about three hours away by train). He purchased ministry books and later participated in the Cairo conference. He testified that he thought his trip to the fairgrounds was mainly for visiting famous secular publishers. As he entered the location, then he saw our flag that has the AJAH logo and the verse in Arabic that says, "This is good and acceptable in the sight of our Savior God, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the full knowledge of the truth" (1 Timothy 2:3-4, Recovery Version). B B said that he couldn’t stop himself from entering the booth. He purchased the seven volumes of the Life-Study of Genesis. Afterward, he didn’t feel to continue at the fairgrounds and traveled back to Assiut. He said, “I am a deacon at the Catholic church, yet I never heard about God’s purpose, the tree of life, or the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Then I came to the conference and found it strange that there was no band, no choir, and no drums; however, it was full of reality.” This was B B’s testimony at the Cairo Conference.

This year about seventy came to the Cairo conference. About eight of them were customers from CIBF. The content of the conference was taken from the Arabic title Life and Building as Portrayed in the Song of Songs. Brother F from Sohag province, a CIBF customer from last year, joined the conference and brought his wife and four more brothers, who are serving ones and pastors in Christianity. F said that he recommended those ones to join the conference because they also appreciate the content of the Arabic ministry books. At the end of the conference, all of these were indeed very positive and appreciative.

Also, some from Upper Egypt (southern Egypt) visited the booth who are involved in distributing Christian publications. M S, who oversees the book room of an evangelical denomination in Sohag, has requested some Arabic ministry titles for display in their book room there. He also requested 900 titles for free distribution during a gospel event conducted by that evangelical denomination, and Rhema is already taking care of this request.

Furthermore, a good number of AJAH’s loyal customers, who have been regularly coming every year, came to the booth again this year. A customer came specifically for the Life-study of Matthew, vol. 2. He also purchased other titles. As he was leaving, he told the serving one that he purchases the Arabic ministry books on behalf of important public figures in Egypt, whose names he could not disclose. Another customer is a medical doctor. He told the serving ones that he appreciates these books and is purchasing them for his sons, who are studying medicine in university.
